Read this before you connect. Nightly is not an Airbnb product and is not approved by
Airbnb. It works by acting inside the Airbnb session you are already signed into, the same way
you would if you were typing. That is a real distinction and it is worth understanding before
you turn anything on.
What Nightly actually does
There is no connection between Nightly and Airbnb's systems. There is no API key, no
integration, no partner agreement. What there is:
A Chrome extension that runs only on airbnb.com/hosting/messages pages, in the
browser where you are signed in to Airbnb.
It reads what is on that page — the same guest messages you can see — and sends the message
text and your house facts to our servers, which write a draft reply.
When you approve a draft, the extension types it into the Airbnb message box and clicks send.
To Airbnb, that is your account sending a message, because it is.
Nightly never has your Airbnb password and cannot sign in as you. If you sign out of Airbnb, or
close Chrome, Nightly can do nothing at all until you are back.
What Airbnb's terms say
Airbnb's Terms of Service restrict automated access to the platform. In plain terms, they
prohibit using bots, scrapers or other automated means to access, collect data from, or interact
with the service without Airbnb's written permission. Nightly does not have that permission, and
we are not going to pretend otherwise.
How much that matters is a judgement you get to make, not one we get to make for you. Two
things are worth weighing:
Nothing happens without you. By default every single message waits for your approval.
Nightly is closer to a very good draft in your outbox than to a bot answering on its own —
and the parts that can send by themselves are ones you switch on, one at a time, after
reading exactly what they say.
The risk is not zero. Airbnb could change its terms, its interface, or its view of
tools like this. In the worst case, a host using automation could face action against their
account. We have never seen it happen for approval-based message drafting, but we cannot
promise it will not, and anyone who tells you otherwise is guessing.
If that risk is not one you want, the honest answer is not to use Nightly. We would rather say
that here than have you find out later.
What you are agreeing to when you connect
You are the host of the listings involved, or are authorised to act for whoever is.
You understand that Nightly acts through your own Airbnb session, and that messages it sends
come from your account and are your responsibility.
You have read the paragraph above about Airbnb's terms, and you accept the risk of using a
tool Airbnb has not approved.
You will keep reviewing what Nightly sends. The switches that let it answer on its own are
yours to turn off at any moment, and pausing stops everything immediately.
What Nightly will never do, whatever you switch on
Offer, promise or discuss a refund, discount, fee or price.
Cancel a booking, or walk a guest through cancelling.
Send a door or gate code to anyone without a confirmed booking.
Send a link, a phone number, or suggest paying outside Airbnb.
Accept or decline a booking request.
Reply to anything about damage, complaints, lawyers or police.
State a fact about your place that you did not give it. It says you will confirm instead.
These are not settings. They are checked twice — once against what the message is about, and
again by reading the words of the draft itself — so a reply that slips past the first check on a
wrong label is still caught by the second.
If Airbnb changes something
Airbnb redesigns its hosting pages from time to time. When that happens, Nightly's reading of
your inbox can break. It is built to fail quietly and visibly rather than to guess: it stops,
tells you it cannot read the page, and sends nothing. We watch for this and push a fix. Nothing is
ever sent on a page Nightly does not understand.
Leaving
Remove the extension and Nightly stops immediately. Delete your account from the app and
everything of yours is erased from our servers, and your subscription is cancelled first. Your
Airbnb account, your listings, your messages and your reviews are untouched — they were always
yours, and Nightly only ever borrowed the keyboard.
